1918. Peace. Really?

Thursday 1st November from 6.30pm

Alison Merrington’s research into the names on our war memorial and life in Hampton Wick generally during WW1 bring us to the long-awaited armistice of 1918. At last the machine guns fell silent over the trenches. Alison will be describing what this meant for the men of Hampton Wick who were out there on the front line and to their families back home.

Her talk will also describe what was going on here in the local area at that time. With riots and revolution in the air it seems things were far from peaceful in Hampton Wick.

Join us for a drinks reception in the Library from 6.30pm followed by Alison’s illustrated talk in Bullen Hall from 7.30pm.
